In 2007 The Media Literacy Network realized that educating professionals would accelerate the improvement of media literacy throughout the Netherlands significantly. That is why The Media Literacy Network developed and started the International MediaCoach Academy, a post graduate training of 3 months and an annual refreshment program for teachers, librarians, youth workers, media producers and police.
The International MediaCoach Academy is a huge success in the Netherlands and The Media Literacy Network is now extending her training activities abroad. At the moment the International MediaCoach Academy is also working with a group of 25 professionals at Curacao, part of the Dutch Caribbean Antilles. The MediaCoach Academy is supported by the Leonardo da Vinci fund of the European Commission.
The MediaCoach Academy consists of different competences. First we try to educate the students on media awareness, understanding, attitude and behavior. Secondly we teach them in communication, presentation and coaching skills. Finally we focus on the MediaCoach in practice, with topics such as analysis, strategy, project management and evaluation. In the Netherlands more than 600 professionals were trained till today and come together twice a year for meetings, actualization of their knowledge and cooperation.
